Very original example of a Simplex 31S vise. The Desmond Stephan Mfg. Company prided themselves in building these vises from STEEL when others were using cast iron. This resulted in a stronger vise. This vise has no welds, cracks or major damage. Jaws measure 3 1/2" across and still have plenty of life in them. They are replaceable as well if you ever wear them out.

Vintage heavy duty swivel base Simplex Gray Steel Slide Vise #33 S. Made by The Simplex Tool Co. Woon, RI. It is in very good smooth working condition. It shows age and use wear and some surface rust. No cracks , breaks or repairs. It weights approx. 32 pounds. 3 1/2'' jaws .
Heavy duty steel bench vise. The jaws measure 3 ½” wide and open to a depth of 7” while the whole vise measures 12” x 8”. Good working condition . . . used but not abused, needs a little cleaning and oiling but perfectly useable as is.

Why buy a used Made In USA vise?
If you look at prices for new "Made In America" vises from Wilton, Columbian and Yost, you will see why. A quality 4" machinist vise from Wilton is 0-0 new with 5" - 6" version being well over ,000. The Made in China vises have inferior castings and will break with heavy use. Some believe, as I do that the older castings made in USA are of better quality than even the new Made in USA vises. All this adds up to used vises being a good deal.
