    Description

This antique Dayak Mandau has an unusual hilt. The mythical creature is carved from a dark, dense hard wood
with hair emanating from its mouth is a style we have not seen before. The hilt is banded to the blade with with a tightly woven cane ring.
The two piece wood scabbard appears to be fitted to the needs of the man who wore it. The cane banding is woven into attractive patterns.
The steel blade is in good condition. There are abrasions from use and age and some scattered dark spotting. A few very small spots of rust.
The sword reflects the fact that it was used both as a jungle knife as well as a head hunting sword.
