Antique Bamboo Spear Shaft - Tribal Weapon - African Pacific Islander Oceanic?.This is a very interesting antique spear shaft. Bamboo shaft with vine or natural cordage wrapped around where the blade attached. The spearhead has been removed. I acquired two of these spears at a respected MA auction house. The other did have a hand forged iron blade. This one came sans blade. I’m not sure where this was made unfortunately. The likely origin would be Southeast Asia/Pacific Islands due to the material being bamboo. However bamboo was present in Africa and was seemingly used for spear shafts there as well. I’ve included in the photos a screenshot of a similar spear in the inventory of the Yale Peabody museum in New Haven, CT. Their specimen is cataloged as being African. The shaft for sale here has clear signs of age. My guess is that it’s easily 100 years old and likely older but that is only a guess. It is pretty rare to find an example like this. Unfortunately I don’t have photos of my intact example at the moment. It is in storage in another state. I’ll post photos if I do get them so that one can see what the spearhead looks like on that example. In the meantime I’ll do my best to answer any question. 57” long. Shipping will be the most economical service. Thanks
